Mont Saint Michel - Day 8

Getting to Mont St Michel:
Continuing with our road trip, we drove from Amboise to Mont-St-Michel. The journey took about 3.5hrs as there were hardly any traffic on the road.

I learned that the parking around Mont St Michel is currently undergoing construction and also it is charged, hence in order to avoid any confusion we can either park at Pontorson or Beauvoir and take a bus or walk to Mont St Michel from there.

Based on various reviews, it seems that food inside Mont St Michel is limited and over priced. Since we had time, we drove to Beauvoir to grab lunch first. We chanced upon a nice creperie - la gourmandise in Beauvoir. At the back of the creperie is a path along a river that leads right to MSM. You can walk all the way but after walking for about 20min we reached the free shuttle terminal and decided to take it. The shuttle service is free and departs every 10min.
Nice creperie with easy access to MSM shuttle service
buckwheat crepe perfect with cider.
While walking along the river you can get a good glimpse of Mont St Michel...

first glimpse from afar
an isolated island on its own

walking through the narrow streets of the old town to get to the monastery
At the top of the winding slope is the monastery and abbey.
the audio guide was very informative.

At the top of the monastery - abbey & a panoramic view of the surrounding
low tide when we visited

Beautiful cloister in the abbey
one side of the cloister over-looking the sea
I think it makes for a nice day trip from Paris but if you can afford the time you can also stay overnight at MSM, Pontorson or Beauvoir to catch the Abbey illuminated at night.
